Context1/5/2009 The Museum Centre of Turku will begin operating from 1 January 2009The Museum Centre of Turku will begin operating from 1 January, which means that a new kind of organisation will emerge. The purpose of this change is to make the activities of the museums and the Cultural Centre more effective and thus achieve synergy effects, when the old borders between the various departments will be connected. The aim of the change, however, is that the activities of the museums and the Cultural Centre will continue according to the same principle from the customers' point of view. The most noticeable changes at the turn of the year will be the new names of the different departments. The new names refers to changesThe present-day Cultural Centre's sphere of activities will be divided into two parts, some of the personnel and the operations will from now continue working at the Cultural Affairs Office (will be called Cultural Sercices Office from 1 January 2009) and some will work at the Museum Centre of Turku. The Cultural workshop, however, will continue organising events and courses, facilities can still be rented, and the galleries will also organise various exhibitions. The Cultural Centre will be called The Old Great Square in the future. The name Turku Provincial Museum will also disappear and the museum work carried out in the province will continue under the name Southwest Finland Provincial Museum. The administrative organisation of The Museum Centre of Turku will in the future comprise Turku Castle, Luostarimäki Handicrafts Museum, the Pharmacy Museum and the Quensel House, Turku Biological Museum, Kurala - Village of Living History, Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art, the Old Great Square and Southwest Finland Provincial Museum. The previous contact information still works!The flow of information will be secured so that the old and well-known e-mail addresses of the departments and the websites are valid until the end of 2009, and the aim is to update the websites of different institutions as before. There will be information about the coming changes available at the home page of the Museum Centre of Turku www.turku.fi/museo and current information will also be available on the departments' websites.
